Organic spice blend Zaatar
Za’atar is a traditional Middle Eastern spice blend with an aromatic, herbaceous, slightly tangy and nutty flavour. Its ingredients may vary depending on the region and recipe. Za’atar originates from the Levant, particularly Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan and Syria, where it has been used in everyday cooking for centuries. Traditionally, it is mixed with olive oil and spread over flatbreads to make manakish, a popular Middle Eastern dish. Za’atar is also served with bread and olive oil or sprinkled over hummus, salads, roasted vegetables and other dishes.
This spice blend is perfect for seasoning potatoes and vegetables, as well as preparing marinades with olive oil and lemon juice. For a richer flavour, za’atar can be added before cooking, while sprinkling it over a finished dish helps preserve its fresh herbal aroma.
Za’atar should be stored in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. Before adding extra salt, check how much salt the blend already contains.
