Organic freeze-dried Acerola powder
Acerola is a berry native to Central and South America. It belongs to the Malpighiaceae plant family and grows on trees that can grow up to 4.5 metres tall. The trees have widely spreading branches and evergreen oval leaves. The small reddish-white flowers turn into reddish-orange or bright red, juicy fruits, which are round or slightly flattened. The seeds have three triangular lobes with wavy wings.
The acerola variety Malpighia glabra is particularly rich in vitamin C, which gives it a sour flavour, making it ideal for products with a high vitamin C content. Acerola is famous for its vitamin C content, which can be up to 40 times higher than that of oranges.
The edible part of the acerola is a fruit (botanically, a berry) that is authorised for marketing as a fruit in Europe. Acerola is usually picked while still green, as it retains the highest levels of vitamin C, which can be double that of ripe fruit. The fruit spoils quickly after harvesting, becoming almost unusable within 3-5 days. For this reason, acerola is freeze-dried to preserve as much of its nutrients as possible.
Freeze-dried acerola powder comes from Brazil, one of the world’s largest producers of acerola. Certified under the Organic Products Regulation (EU) 2018/848 and the British Organic Standards approved by the Soil Association under code GB-ORG-05.

Consumption
Ready to use as a food or as an ingredient in prepared food.
3-5 g/day.

Uses:
Mix acerola powder with water, consume directly as a refreshing drink;
Add to smoothies, smoothies or juices;
Use in desserts such as ice cream, cakes or fruit salads;
Add to yoghurt, porridge or granola;
Use as an ingredient in baked goods or sauces.

Acerola is a natural and nutritious fruit, but due to its extremely high vitamin C content, it can cause mild digestive upset in some people, especially when consumed in large quantities.
